Richard L. Hughes is one of the founding partners of the St. Louis Personal Injury Law Firm of Mogab & Hughes Attorneys, P.C. Richard Hughes was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He received his B.S., cum laude from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. After college he served two years on active duty in the United States Army. He received his LL.B, from St. Louis University Law School, where he was the Editor of The St. Louis University Law Journal and a member of its honor society, the Order of the Woolsack. He is licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri and in The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. Mr. Hughes is also licensed to practice in the United States Court of Federal Claims which allows him to represent victims in Vaccine injury cases. He has tried approximately 300 jury cases to conclusion in Missouri, Texas, Illinois and Arkansas; and has argued more than 60 cases in The United States Eighth Circuit and Missouri Courts of Appeals.
His trials include automobile and truck accidents; premises injuries; defective products, including numerous machine and tool guarding cases, personal watercraft and water ski injuries, all-terrain vehicles; injuries from bad drugs and faulty medical devices, medical malpractice cases against physicians, hospitals and nursing homes, birth injuries, surgical errors, hospital infections, emergency room misdiagnoses; railroad crossing cases, Federal Employees Liability (FELA) cases involving injuries to railroad employees; Jones Act Seamen claims; intellectual property/trade secrets; mesothelioma (asbestos) injury claims; wrongful death claims; and insurance policy litigation, including under-insurance and un-insurance claims against insurance companies; and suicide (accident) double indemnity claims involving life insurance policies.
In 2005, Mr. Hughes was awarded the AWARD OF HONOR from the Lawyers Association of St. Louis, Missouri. The Award is given annually to a St. Louis trial attorney whose service to the profession and community merits recognition to inspire others to similar service. Mr. Hughes has an A.V. Preeminent Peer Review Rating™ from Martindale-Hubbell® Law, which is the highest rating given to an attorney for legal ability and ethics. He was recently named one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in Missouri by The National Trial Lawyers.
Mr. Hughes was an Instructor at St. Louis University School of Law; and has been a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Missouri. He has lectured on civil litigation and trial practice at numerous continuing legal education seminars. He also served on the Missouri Bar’s Disciplinary Committee for the 22nd Judicial Circuit. He also served on the Dean’s Council at St. Louis University School of Law.
