E. Coli Outbreak at Rockwood Summit High School

The St. Louis County Department of Public Health is investigating an E. coli outbreak affecting parents, students, and guests of Rockwood Summit High School. The department said as of Monday, November 18, 2024, 94 cases have been identified. The Individuals tested positive for E. coli after attending four separate events hosted at or catered through Andre’s Banquets and Catering. Officials are saying current details suggest salad may be the source of the illness. “The health and safety of our community are our highest priorities,” said Dr. Kanika Cunningham, Director of the Saint Louis County Department of Public Health. The Department of Public Health urges anyone experiencing symptoms of E. coli infection, which includes vomiting, fever, diarrhea, and severe stomach cramps, to seek medical attention immediately. At-risk groups of people can also experience a very severe complication called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) which can lead to kidney failure, permanent health problems, and even death.
